Re: Hands you dont play.

I dont call with any old shite on the sb. Youre in THE worst position and it can make for some very tricky decisions when calling with shite and marginal hands I think personally.

Re: Hands you dont play.

It's been a post I've been meaning to make here for a while MrM and one of the biggest decisions I have yet to make in my game. If I'm playing exceptionally tight I sometimes have a night where I only play the same hands on the SB I would play anywhere else (just about). I comfort myself with my rock hard tight play and tell myself that every $.50 saved is a $.50 earned.

But MOSTLY I don't. Mainly I call with my mystery SB hand and some weird flops can disguise my even weirder starting hand.

I dunno if this is +EV and am really interested how you fellas, that grind a living on cash tables, play here.

Re: Hands you dont play.

I do play more hands there than elsewhere but not TOO many more. Id call with non suited connectors for example and I wouldnt call with those anywhere else. I also call with K-rag suited and Q-rag suited although I dont actually know if I should or not

Thing is you go calling with hands like 102o and hands like that and it could just get you in big trouble. Say on a flop of J102 things like that. Youre gona have to flop a BIG hand to be good there in the small blind.

Im not the master of small blind play or anything but I certainly wouldnt be calling with crap there and id be folding A-rag like a shot.

Re: Hands you dont play.

Good points but say you have 10 2 o?

The flop comes J 10 2 - yeah you shit yourself. So many people can't lay down J 10 o preflop you have to poo your pants a little. This is why I said earlier

All in all calling on the SB can be a good ploy if you're disciplined enough to let go of something that you think is beaten.
But say if the flop comes 2 2 K rainbow?

Now you have a fucking monster if someone has AK or KQ.

In my reckoning the SB can be a place to drip tiny pots away but win HUGE pots (a bit like small pairs hitting a set).

Re: Hands you dont play.

Thing is though are you good enough to lay it down? Not you as in you specifically, just players in general. Its hard to lay those down and youd have to often lose at least some chips finding out your beaten.

True you may hit a monster but its going to be very rare and even then with a vulnerable hand you can still be outdrawn probably a lot more than you think. Even when you hit trips it can be shite. Say you limp with your 53 and the flop comes 5 5 K. You think sweet bust the AK or woteva but in actual fact your up against someone with 65s or A5!

Re: Hands you dont play.

At the end of the day your holding shit cards in the worst position and thats spells danger to me, id rather not give myself the problem personally.

Its kind of like what a lot of poor players think aboht any 2 cards in general isnt it. Calling with 74o in mid for 1bb cos its so cheap and maybe theyll hit monster but we all know thats just suicide in the long run.

Why not put up a thread about specifically playing in the small blind on full ring cash tables and then see what others think Gett1n, id be quite interested to know also.

Too right, you want to be raising with something like that, and stealing the pot on the flop
