Poker beginner question

Beginner question no 1

What is meant by :
Wired pair :flops a set 11.8% of the time

an example may explain I expect

it means where you have a 'pocket pair', e.g you are dealt 33, or KK etc

11.8% of the time another of those cards will appear on the flop

normally I'd interpret a wired pair to mean a pair split between (i.e. wired) your hand and the board, but in the context of the original statement "Wired pair :flops a set 11.8% of the time" that makes no sense, so I assumed it meant a pocket pair.

Generally speaking a 'set' refers to a pocket pair and one on the board, whereas 'trips' is used to refer to two on the board and a third in the pocket.

Yeah in holdem a wired pair and a pocket pair are exactly the same thing, and there's nothing quite like flopping a set, especially against a preflop raiser!
