Re: 15TH-16TH April Welsh Premier League

toaday's match previews from the dailypost

Llanelli v Newtown
Quote:
Meanwhile, Newtown, buoyed by their first win in nine Welsh Premier outings, look to gatecrash Llanelli’s title party when they make the trip to Stebonheath Park tonight, writes John Bridgwater.
It promises to be a tricky night for the Robins, but they can take heart from last weekend’s welcome 1-0 verdict over Newi Cefn Druids in their last home outing.
Newly-crowed champions Llanelli will be toasting their league triumph on home soil, but manager Darren Ryan hopes his side can dampen the celebrations, although his plans are hit by absentees.
“We’ll be going down there looking to win as we want to get to 40 points and finish the season positively,” he said.
“I’m not sure what side Llanelli will have out now they’ve won the league, but we’ve got a few missing so we’ll be giving another chance to some of the youngsters.”
Tommy Mutton is out with an injury sustained in Saturday’s warm-up, while Glenn Tolley, Hugh Clarke and Karl Seliaerts are also missing. Dan Griffiths is set for a start.
this post has a Northern slant which favours Newtown , 1.25 are poor odds , Expekt offer 1.65 for ht/ft and also Llanelli @1.65 h.t. which is very tempting.

Bangor v Rhyl

Quote:
BANGOR City boss Nev Powell will tell his players they have everything to play for in tonight’s clash with Rhyl at Farrar Road.
As well as looking to finish a respectable fourth in the Welsh Premier, Powell is also considering his team selection for next month’s Welsh Cup final with Llanelli.
Powell said: “Three points from our last two games will probably clinch it, but we want to do it straight away and not hold back until we play Neath on Saturday.
“Our season is far from over, because the players have the Welsh Cup final against Llanelli to come and are keen to make sure they figure in the line-up.”
The FAW have confirmed that the cup final, to be played on Sunday, May 4, will be at Newtown’s Latham Park, and will be televised live on S4C.
For tonight’s game City will again have a full squad having avoided any new injuries in Friday’s 1-0 win at Llangefni Town.
Powell said: “We have enjoyed good results in all of the local derbies this season, against Rhyl, Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Llangefni – and aim to maintain that record.”
Previous meetings between the two clubs this season have seen two wins for Rhyl, one for Bangor and two draws.
Rhyl manager John Hulse will have striker Lee Hunt back for the trip to Farrar Road after he missed Saturday’s 5-0 win over Port Talbot, writes Mike McEvoy.
Striker Hunt has completed his two-match suspension and seems sure to be reinstated as the third-placed Lilywhites look to resume where they left off on Saturday.
“It was a tremendous performance against a Port Talbot side that had been in fourth place not long ago, and even they must have admitted they couldn’t live with us on that display,” said Hulse.
“In fact it could have been a lot more, and when you consider we were without five players who would get into any side in the League it made it even more pleasing.”
Hulse will run the rule over fitness doubts Greg Stones, Craig Jones, George Horan and Jimmy Kelly.
“We still have two or three players carrying knocks that will need looking at so I have told everyone to report to the ground and we’ll take it from there,” added the Rhyl boss.
Although there is nothing but pride riding on the outcome, Rhyl will want to avenge the 2-1 home defeat in the previous League clash at Belle Vue in November. Hulse has promised his side will not be holding back.
He said: “It’s always nice to go to Farrar Road, a big ground and an enthusiastic crowd for a local derby. We will be preparing for it as best we can.
“At one time Bangor were pressing for third place but now we are 12 points clear of the nearest side below us so there’s no real pressure on either club.
“We both still have cup finals to look forward to so it should be another good entertaining game.”
I think "entertaining" means high scoring , and with both sides at full strength with players fighting for Cup final places ... note these clubs are in finals of different cups. Bangor in the Welsh Cup , Rhyl in the Premier Cup

Welshpool v Port Talbot
Quote:
WELSHPOOL bid to profit from back-to-back games on home soil to end their season on a high, writes John Bridgwater.
They entertain Port Talbot tonight before hosting Airbus UK Broughton on Saturday.
The Lilywhites slipped to ninth after Saturday’s controversial last-gasp 1-0 reverse at Haverfordwest, in which Pool thought they had cleared off the line but the linesman ruled otherwise.
“That sums up our season,” said manager Tomi Morgan. “We had enough chances to have wrapped up the game – we hit the woodwork three times – but went down to the sucker punch.”
Midfielder Chris Venables could be out tonight with an ankle problem, while Brett Jefferies is another injury worry.
my comment is ?

Connah's Quay v TNS
Quote:
CONNAH’S Quay Nomads manager Jim Hackett will check on defender Ben Alston before naming his side to face deposed champions The New Saints at the Deeside Stadium tonight.
Alston is in a fitness race after taking an ankle knock in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to new champions Llanelli.
“We are hoping he may still come through in time but we will have the full squad available and will make a decision once Ben’s situation is known,” said Hackett.
Hackett remains concerned at Nomads’ lack of goals this season, saying: “It’s been the story of our season, not putting away our chances.
“It comes back to bite you and that was the story again against Llanelli after doing more than enough to merit a draw.”
Nomads have a chance to atone for Saturday’s defeat by avenging their 3-1 away defeat on Saints’ artificial pitch.
“We were denied a goal that would have made it 3-2 and I was sent to the stand so it wasn’t our day,” he said. “They are the best footballing side in the league but on our pitch I’m hoping we can take them close, or better.”
Nomads knocked TNS out of the Welsh Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out in October when keeper Paul Pritchard pulled off three saves.
TNS will be anxious to finish their campaign with a flourish after hopes of a fourth successive Welsh Premier crown were finally dashed by Friday’s 2-0 loss at Airbus UK, writes John Bridgwater.
The Oswestry side still need one point to make sure of runners-up spot, a target they will be hoping to achieve before hosting Llanelli on Saturday.
Joint boss Mike Davies said: “The players tried their hardest but everything went against them last week – although you’ve got to give a lot of credit to Airbus.”
Davies admitted several members of the side will be playing for their futures as the club ponders the number of contracted players for next season.
I think Connah's Quay are a very poor side but they lost 0-1 to Llanelli on Saturday , Connah's Quay's pitch is notoriously bad and that will restrict TNS playing style. I still believe that TNS will win. I'm tempted by TNS h.t./f.t. @2.35 with expekt
