Friday afternoon's
Bettingzone Market News:
1600: With
John McCain now confirmed as Republican candidate for the race to the White House, while the Democrats still cannot choose between
Barack Obama and
Hillary Clinton, political punters are backing him to become President.
William Hill have cut McCain's odds from 13/8 to 11/8 second favourite - only fractionally behind 5/4 market leader Obama.
"Punters believe that McCain has secured a significant advantage by becoming the official candidate so early on and as he also seems to be polling well, they are backing him seriously now," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
"Meanwhile, Obama and Clinton look like having to go all the way to the wire before one of them manages a race-winning lead."
Hills have again shortened the odds about Clinton winning the Democratic nomination and have cut her odds from 2/1 to 13/8, with Obama lengthened from 4/11 to 4/9.
