Cowdenbeath boss Brian Welsh is looking for his side to start grinding out results in their bid to climb away from the play-off zone of the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division.
Saturday’s narrow defeat to Airdrie has pushed Cowden into the second bottom spot but they have games in hand and can climb away from the area of the table.
But the manager knows that the harvest of points will have to start as soon as possible.
He was pretty pleased with the performance on Saturday. He said, “Our injury hoodoo hit us again in the build-up to the game and we were six regulars short against Airdrie but we gave them a real run for their money.
“The defence was much better than against Ross County and I was delighted with the way young Jamie Reid adapted to the environment.
“The fact is we missed a gilt edged chance just before they scored and we have to start converting these sort of openings. I thought all in all we were worth a point”.
The manager added, “We are heading into an important phase of the season and to work our way up the table we have to start grinding out results.
“Points are what we need and we will have to work hard to get our recovery underway”.
Mr Welsh is hopeful of at least two players being back in action for this weekend’s trip to Alloa.
Central defender John Armstrong missed the Airdrie match with a knee injury picked up in training but he should be fit for next week and Jay Shields is now free from suspension.
Pat Scullion went off late on last weekend with a knock but he took should be ready for the trip to Recreation Park.
Meanwhile Bryan Gilfillan is about three weeks away from recovering from his shoulder injury.
