Big boys prepare for Heinze scrap
Liverpool are ready to meet Manchester United's £6million asking price for Gabriel Heinze, but the Premiership champions are determined to prevent the Argentine full-back joining their bitter rivals.
Under new FIFA legislation, Heinze can buy out the last two years of his United contract, leaving the Red Devils powerless to prevent him moving to Anfield. And according to The People, Liverpool are ready to test that ruling.
United are already involved in a bitter transfer wrangle for Heinze's countryman Carlos Tevez, and this new row could escalate to similar heights.
Heinze, currently in Venezuela preparing for the Copa America final, has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford and Sir Alex Ferguson will not stand in his way if he wants to leave.
However, Ferguson and other senior United figures would rather see him move abroad than become the first player to make the move from Old Trafford to Anfield in over 40 years.
The paper claims Heinze is keen on a move to Liverpool, but would rather go with United's blessing.

Liverpool: Hands off Crouch
The trio are all showing an interest in the gangly goalgetter and were under the impression he may be surplus to requirements at Anfield following the arrivals of Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin.
However, Reds boss Rafael Benitez plans to rotate his five strikersthis season and is under no pressure to sell after already allowing Craig Bellamy to join West Ham for £7.5million.
Crouch has two years left on his current deal and Benitez believes the 26-year-old is worth in excess of the £16million Tottenham spent on Darren Bent, according to the News of the World.
Benitez rates has previously told the England international he must stay and fight for his place this season.
"The only thing I can say is that Peter Crouch will be staying with us. I have said to Crouch that he must fight for his position and he will stay with us," he said.

Aurelio will miss start of season
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez says Brazilian left-back Fabio Aurelio will not be fit for the start of the season.
The 27-year-old ruptured his Achilles tendon during a Champions League tie against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in April and is still recovering.
Benitez told the club's website: "Fabio isn't fit. It could be another month before he recovers. We knew it would be a long time when he got injured.
"He is improving, but it is not easy when you have this kind of injury."
Auerlio made 25 appearances during his first season at Liverpool after joining on a free from Spanish side Valencia last summer.
I cant believe we are still trying to get Heinze, be good if we could but from utd straight to us
We've got to keep Crouchy, end of. Shame about Aurelio.
